We walked into town today past the monument of the gay soldiers. Well at least that’s what it seems like. It is a statue of two soldiers in battledress, one holding a bouquet of flowers and the other a rifle, running towards each other and connecting in mid hug and a big kiss. Well I ask you, what are we supposed to think? :-)
Today was another quiet day mooching around the old streets and doing a bit of shopping. We were mostly looking for clothes for an upcoming special occasion. We’ve been invited to a German wedding, how cool is that. It didn’t take me long (it’s a guy thing), but Justine just got increasingly frustrated with not finding what she wanted, in the size that she needed. So we thought we would end the day with a bit of amusement.
We went to the ‘Sex Machine Museum’. Yes you read that right. There is a museum here dedicated to sex machines and other related items. To say the least the experience was … entertaining, informative, and a little weird. One of the main exhibits they had is a couple of ‘erotic’ silent movies that they play. The movies were made in 1925 under the order of the Spanish king at that time, featuring his friends and prostitutes. That in itself is rather weird, but what you do have to ask is, how did these two movies survive the revolutions and mass destructions that have occurred since then? You get the impression that they have been well protected. With regard to the other machines and implements, some of these date back to the 15th Century. I didn’t know people did those kind of things now, let alone back in the 15th Century!
We finished the day with a beer and a pizza. Just to confirm what you have heard, the beer here is cheaper than the water. Cheaper than the fruit juice too by quite a considerable margin. No wonder people drink so much of it. It is quite normal to see people sitting down with a beer before 10:00am. But don’t let the price let you think it is inferior, it isn’t.
