We left Switzerland today … eventually. This wasn’t because we had a late start, but because during the course of our journey we went in and out of Switzerland and Germany several times before we settled on Germany. Unlike our entry into Switzerland from Austria several days ago, where the border control buildings seemed as if they had been disused for some time, the ones between Switzerland and Germany are in full effect, well at least from the Swiss side. Leaving Switzerland … no problem, going into Switzerland … we got stopped each time, albeit briefly.
The rest of the journey was pretty nondescript really. Traveling along Autobahn’s peppered with road works, bringing traffic to a virtual, if not an actual stop. The weather is still rain and wind, we just hope that it clears up for the wedding tomorrow. We are heading for a small winegrowing village in Western Germany where our friends Daniela and Armin are getting married tomorrow. But more on that later.
This area is full of little tiny winegrowing villages, with tiny, narrow, cobblestone roads that wind through and then pop you out the other side. Little roads that are lined with ancient houses, that seemingly bend to whichever angle the wind would have them go. This is a very cool, and quaint area, and I can understand why Daniela wanted to get married here.
