We drove up to Messina this morning to catch the ferry. Took the toll road to make it quicker and by the time we got there we felt almost hobbit-like, we had spent so much time underground. Tunnels separated by viaducts all the way. We had a little trouble finding the right car ferry. It seems that the one we were wanting is only taking trucks this morning, and so we had to take the alternative, which is more than twice the price of course.
Once back on the mainland we headed north on the A3. Pretty monotonous trip. Nothing much to see on these fast trips. But we wanted to get as far north as we could as we are catching the ferry to Croatia tomorrow. We stopped at a little place called Metaponto, which is so small it’s probably not even on the map. But they do have public beaches. So we went for a swim and spent the next hour trying to rid ourselves of sand. Set off on foot to try and find a Bankomat (ATM), and what seemed like hours exploring everystreet, we resorted to the car. Tried to find the town centre, only to discover some time later, that there doesn’t appear to be one. This place is based around the various camping sites along the beach.
