We would have liked to have left Trani today … we didn’t. We would have liked to have our vehicle documents couriered to us today … we didn’t. We would have liked to have been in Croatia today … we aren’t.
This morning was spent on the phone. First to Croatia to cancel accommodation. Secondly to Peugot to get the documents that we need. Called Rome (where we collected the car from) and as they have proven to us before, they have been no help whatsoever. We then called Paris … what a contrast. They went out of their way to help, but the best they could do for us was to courier them to Milan for us to pick up on Monday. So it sounds like we will be heading north tomorrow.
A word of warning to those thinking of doing the Eurolease car, the service our of Rome is definitely substandard. But from Paris is fantastic. When you pick up your car, check that you have the original documents before you leave, as some countries don’t let you in.
So we are in Trani for another night, but still it could be a worse city to be stuck in. It is a nice seaside city, with lots of white stone. Staying in a place right in the central Piazza and we managed to get a park right outside (so we won’t be moving). We went for a walk to the Cathedral with its incredibly high bell tower. The bones of St Nicholas are in a crypt under the alter (we’re seeing our share of saints while we are here). There was a wedding in progress, so we sat and observed for a while, including the throwing of rice. Today must be a good day for weddings, because we saw three others using the cathedral as a backdrop to their photos, when we came out.
