Another quiet day today. We headed south and ended up in a sleepy little settlement called Cavtat, just before the road headed inland and towards Montenegro. We went for a bit of a walk around a little wooded peninsula, past more determined sun soakers, and we were about to write this place off and head for home when we came out on a little restaurant centre and berthing place for some very large yachts. A complete surprise. This was the historic centre of the village, and well worthy of stopping for a gelato we thought.
On the way home we stopped for a swim along the way at Milini. Colder water, bigger rocks and more flotsam.
What has been noticeable on the coast road, particularly on this southern part, are the spit roasts. At every little settlement, the locals have setups on the side of the road where they light up a fire in the morning and spit roast a pig, which they sell off during the afternoon. In some townships there will be one every few hundred yards. They look very tasty.
We got home to find that we were now sharing our accommodation with a young Finnish couple down for the weekend. They weren’t coping with the heat so well.
