We went into the city today to enjoy the sights. From where we are it takes a bus and a train (underground) to get there. But we found that they have closed some of the track so it is two buses and a train. But we have to say that the transport system here is fantastic. Two buses and a train and no more than 3 minutes wait between any of them. It is fully integrated here so that no matter how many links or changes you make, you can pretty much step off one and onto the next. Very cool. Not what we are used to at all. And what’s more the buses don’t come in threes. However the policemen do. The policemen always seem to travel in threes, even the ones that we saw on bicycles traveled in triplicate.
Our first stop today was the Museum of Fine Arts, but we were accosted by one of the many touts flogging Opera tickets on the way. And yes we succumbed. We bought tickets to what sounds like a watered down tourist version for tomorrow night, so we’ll see what happens.
Anyway back to the museum. This was fantastic and huge. Lots of Rubens, Van Dyck, and some Rembrant self portraits. We immersed ourselves in an endless number of amazing works for over 5 hours. By the time we had finished there, there was only time for bit of a stoll around town to take in the sights before heading back home. What we did notice that in the parks around here they line the pebble paths with bench seats. We aren’t sure if the main reason is for people to sit on, or to keep people off the grass. What ever the reason, it is a great venue for the local social hour.
